He's Screwed Now [May. 11th, 2007|09:28 am]
Well, Bush is now officially screwed. The only person who could make articulate and convincing arguments for what we were doing in Iraq is now stepping down in June. I have not talked about Iraq much at all, largely because I'm tired of the blogosphere carrying the water for an Administration that has made many mistakes, can't admit them, and no longer seems interested in making its case at all.

In 2003, I believed ridding the world of the Saddam Hussein regime was the right thing to do. I still believe that, and we need to stay there until the country is stable. Allowing the country to plunge itself into chaos after removing their previous government would be unconscionable, as would leaving a power vacuum in the middle east which Iran would be quite happy to fill.

Bush seems tired to me, which is only fair, because we're tired of him. At the very least in 2008, we'll have new leadership either way. I'm hoping with some reasonable leadership in the White House, an adult conversation can be had between Congress and the President over what to do next in Iraq.
